This box was replaced on 8/9/08. Be careful, there was a scorpion hiding under the rock we moved to hid the box.

You'll need to find your way to McGill Campground in Los Padres National Forest. From the I-5 exit at Frazier Park and go west, past the stop sign and little town. Go quite a few miles. At the Y keep left and you'll pass a yellow snow gate in a mile or so. Keep going. McGill Campground is just before the second snow gate. You should check a map for the best directions.

Enter McGill Campground and park in the overflow lot (you may need to pay the day rate for campground use, but I couldn't find the ranger to confirm or deny this). Once in the overflow lot, which you'll find by making a sharp right after you enter the area (It's posted "Overflow Lot.") walk out of the lot toward the information kiosk. Turn so that your back is facing the kiosk and look west. You'll see the McGill trail head. Walk to it, but stop just before you get to it (stay on the pavement).

Turn 1/4 turn to your right (you'll see a DO NOT ENTER sign, but that's just for vehicles) and follow the road. Keep on the road until you get to campsite #26. With your back to the #26 marker (facing about east) you'll see a yellow pole across the paved road. Turn your view just a bit to the right and you'll see a short post across the road. Turn your view toward this post then raise your eyes slowly up to see a group of boulders, just to the left of straight ahead. Take about 100 paces (85 for a tall man and 99 for a 10 year old boy) toward the boulders. You should see a 9ft. tall sapling that you can wrap your hand around (the only one nearby). There is a reddish boulder near this sapling. The letterbox is in a crevice between the reddish boulder and a rock to the south. The easiest access is from the east side of the rocks. Remember to always get a visual before you stick your hand into a dark place. You might want to use a stick to poke around, but it's not hidden very deep and you can see it if you are looking for it.

Please rehide and cover with leaf-litter under the rocks. Thank you.

If you are up for another hunt, we just placed one off the Nordic Base and the end of the road you took to get up to the McGill campground. It is called "The Good Life"
