From Oxford travel south on Hwy 431 turn onto Hwy 281, this is the hwy to Cheaha State Park. Continue to travel past 2nd overlook, aprox. 2 miles. Look for a dirt pull off on the right, you will see a mound of dirt. Cross over and hike small trail, over 2 more mounds of dirt. Continue to walk this great hike thru nature in Talladega National Forest as you hike you will see rock walls laid in curves. These were laid by CCC's(Civilian Conservation Corps). You will see the "Surprise". It's an beautiful, old, manmade rock bridge. Make sure you go down into the clearing, look under the bridge's archway on the underside of the bridge, take a camera, this is beautiful. Standing back on bridge, turn till you are facing sunset(west)look over left shoulder. Notice the rock support wall of bridge going down beside bridge toward water. Travel down this ledge but not into the water,(be careful and don't fall like skeeter did). At the bottom of rock wall you will see an opening, the green Letter Box is placed in here. Bring stamp pad, camera and ink pen...good luck
