Pass the location of ‘Wayfarers Chapel’ on Palos Verdes Dr S. Proceed 0.3 miles SE, just beyond Narcissa Dr. On the right side of the road, there is a small parking area between two above ground pipes. Pull into this area and park in front of the ‘Abalone Cove Tide Pools’ sign, being careful not to block the emergency access gate. Get out of your vehicle, climb through the gate and walk up the gravel path.

Although we have never experienced this, there have been reports of parking citations given at this location. To be safe, you might want to park at one of the following locations instead. Alternative parking #1 - 3 vehicles plus 1 handicapped spot. Alternative parking #2 - Abalone Cove Shoreline Park ($5 fee).

Box 1 “Sunset Wall” - **Please Note That This Box Has Been Confirmed Missing, But You've Come This Far...So You Might As Well Enjoy The Area**This first spot is a favorite place for our family to sit and watch the sunset. To find it, you need to follow the gravel path down and around until you come to the long white rock wall on your right. Climb up to the top where the wall squares off. You can climb strait up the hill or walk the length of the wall, which would probably be easier. The letterbox is hidden under the pile of removable rocks in the inner corner of the wall.

Congratulations! You have found the first letterbox that we have ever planted with the first stamp we have ever made.

Box 2 “Tide Pools” - **Please Note That This Box Has Also Been Confirmed Missing** The second spot is down by a family favorite for finding octopus, sea stars, and other fun sea creatures. If you go at sunset you will have the best luck for spotting an octopus. To find this box continue on down the main path to the beach. When you come toward the end of the path you will see an old rock structure with a hole for a barbecue and a hole for a sink. Stand in front of the sink as if you were washing dishes. Behind the sink, in the back right lower corner, under the removable rock, you will find this letterbox.

Please be sure to replace the removable rocks so that each box remains well hidden. Take your time and enjoy one of our favorite areas to explore!
