UPDATE: Box #2 seems to have been washed away with the winter storms but box #1 is alive and well as of 3/14/04.

Kennedy Grove is a nice little park that once was part of the old Castro Rancho. The park is off San Pablo Dam Road in Richmond. Parking is usually collected only on weekends - $4 per car plus an extra buck for dogs.

Start at the sign in front of Fern Cottage and go to the right of the cottage along the garden. Look on your left for the marker for the Bay Ridge Trail. Continue down the trail into the Eucalyptus grove. Just before the trail turns left look about 7 feet up for the marker for Eucalyptus #354. Box #1 should be at the base of the tree. Hopefully these will be the only leaves of three you will get to see up close.

Continue on the Bay Ridge Trail past the parking lot and down to the right. Just after you cross the creek before the trail hooks left, look right in front of you for a BIG tree with dark bumpy bark with long thin aromatic leaves. (Sorry - I’m no genius at identifying trees but maybe this is a California Bay or Laurel. If you can tell me what it is I would be grateful!) Look under a rock at the base of the tree for box #2. *** MISSING ***

Beware there's tons of poison oak throughout this park! This very short section of the Bay Ridge Trail is dog friendly and could also easily accomodate a jog stroller.
