Tow Mater, or simply Mater, is a character in the 2006 animated Pixar film "Cars" and its sequel as well as the spin-off eerie "Mater's Tall Tales". His voice sounds exactly like that of Larry the Cable Guy, imagine that! In case you wondered, he is a 1951 International Harvester tow truck. His original color was baby blue, but he has rusted to a light-brown-orange color with just a little bit of the blue showing through. Mater's driving skills include his claim to be "the world's best backwards driver", and he certainly appears to be.
Directions:
Heading north on I-45 south of Corsicana, Texas, take Exit 216 into the rest area. Turn left into the "Cars" parking area, even though Mater is a truck. Go into the visitors area to enjoy this beautiful and remarkable rest area, one of the many new ones being built by the State of Texas for travelers to enjoy. Learn a little bit about the history of Navarro County as well.
To the box:
Go back out the front entrance to the Cars parking area and go left to the 1/4 mile loop (look for the rusty metal marker). Cross the bridge, pass the playground on the left, pass the bridge on the right, pass the "honey locust" shade shelter and stop at the next covered picnic table on the right. Make sure no one else is there, then sit at about the middle of the table with the main building to your left. There are 3 support columns holding up the roof in front of you. Look between the two posts of the center support and spot a largish tree on the edge of the woods. Mater may be found on the ground at the base of that tree under rocks. This is a busy place, so be stealthy so the box can stay here for a while.
