This is my first Letterbox and is both a Letterbox and a geocache. I placed it to help the geocachers in Fairbanks earn one of the seven souvenirs of August challenge for 2014. Now that I have my foot in the Letterboxing door I will probably be doing more of these! What fun!
*** IMPORTANT! This Letterbox is seasonal only. It is available during the summer when the gates are open from 7:30 am to 6:30 pm daily.
To find this Letterbox take Airport way towards the airport terminal. Go past Pike’s Landing and then turn right on Dale road. Follow the Riverboat Discovery signs and park in the parking lot.
To start your search, proceed to the Captain Binkley memorial near the river’s edge and near the gift shop. While standing directly in front of Captain Brinkley follow a magnetic heading of 170° all the way to the end of the parking areas. Watch out for vehicles!! You should now be in front of one of two exit signs.
While standing on the road in front of the exit sign follow a magnetic heading of 280°. Before reaching the other exit sign, enter the woods between the large white spruce tree and the birch tree. Make your way behind the berm of dirt. The Letterbox is hidden partially under a log and is surrounded by rocks and sticks for cover. Please cover it back up when done! And be very muggle aware! There will be two zip lock bags in the box – one for Letterboxers and one for Geochachers. Be sure to put your stamp in the log for Letterboxers! Enjoy!
