Directions
From I-83, take the Warren Road exit East. Cross the iron bridge over the reservoir. Immediately on the other side of the bridge, park in the space on your left. (East side of the bridge, North lot) You will be at the Loch Raven Reservoir.

Loch Raven Reservoir is a home for the Maryland State flower, the Black Eyed Susan. This is a companion box to our Nipmuck Laurel Sanctuary (Connecticut State flower box for Mountain Laurel) in Union, Connecticut and to the Rhododendron box in Kenmore, Washington, near our daughter. Our son lives nearby in Timonium and we asked him to plant the box for us. Living in Connecticut, we will be thrilled to collect Maryland letterboxers’ stamps. When the book is full, our son will mail it to us. Please let us know if you enjoyed the box, and if the box needs attention.

The Black-Eyed Susan (Rudbeckia hirta) has been the official Maryland flower since 1918 when it was designated the "Floral Emblem" of Maryland by the General Assembly (Chapter 458, Acts of 1918; Code State Government Article, sec. 13-305).

In his Species Plantarum (1753), the Swedish naturalist Linnaeus described and named the flower Rudbeckia after Olav Rudbeck and his son, both professors at the University of Uppsala, and hirta from the Latin meaning "rough hairy".

Black-eyed Susan is a rough, hairy perennial daisies or coneflowers, members of the sunflower family (Asteraceae). The flower's yellow rays circle a dark-brown, spherical center measuring 2 to 3 inches in diameter. Commonly found in fields and on roadsides, they bloom between May and August, reaching 2 to 3 feet in height. They are native to the United States, east of the Rocky Mountains.

Clues:
To find the letterbox, first find the old foundation. Go out the front door. 19 paces ahead of you there is a big double tree. Go to the tree. Past the double tree, is another big tree. You will find the letterbox in the stones in front of the tree. Please rehide the letterbox so that there are no parts showing!
