Easy Walking/ Drive-by

Hidden Lake Gardens, owned by Michigan State University, is a truly beautiful and hilly 775-acre botanical garden and arboretum in the interesting Irish Hills of the southeastern part of the state. Pets on leashes are allowed, but visitors are reminded to clean up after them and not to allow them to swim in the ponds and lakes. Entry fees are $3.00 per person (Apr.-Oct.) or $2.00 per person (Nov.-Mar.) for a day-long pass that allows exit and re-entry. (Directions and information was used from KazooDog’s EXCELLENT description). This is a wonderful place to visit!

Directions:
Hidden Lake Gardens is 2 miles west of the very small town of Tipton and about 7 miles west of Tecumseh on Michigan Route 50. M-50 can be reached from I-94 from the west, taking US-127 south just east of Jackson to US-12 east and then to M-50 that runs southeast; the Gardens can also be reached by following I-94 from the east to M-52 south and then west on M-50. See road maps for directions from other locations.

CLUE and BACKGROUND:
Inspired by the location after finding the Hidden Lake Gardens stamp, we decided to place one of our own. We originally planned on planting this stamp in Hudson, MI in honor of the Rooster we pass each summer on our way to our many camping excursions. But we found the perfect hiding spot on Cobbler’s Knob in this park.

This will be easy to find and don’t forget to look for the Hidden Lake Garden stamp also located in this park.

After driving to Cobbler’s Knob, you will need to stand in the 2nd parking spot from the left. Take a reading of due North. You will see a tree that looks like a candelabra or “Lumier” from Beauty and the Beast. Go around the tree to the left and you will find the Big Rooster in the crotch of the tree on the North side of the tree. In this crevice, you will find the Rooster under some sticks and debris.

This box is off the beaten path! Just by a little bit! Please don’t disturb the natural habitat! There is plenty of walking space between plants! You will also need to WATCH OUT FOR POISON IVY!

Good Luck!
