I remember when I stood
Filled with wonder in a wood
And saw two birds that built a nest,
And one had roses on its breast.
W. W. Christman

This box went missing earlier this summer. It has been replanted in a slightly different location. See the revised clues below.

This trail is very pleasant. Much of the trail follows along the Bozen Kill Creek as it cascades over rocks, forms pools and gentll flows along, creating a haven for frogs and crayfish. Bring a lunch and eat in the lean-to that faces a 30 foot waterfall. The Christman Sanctuary, which is owned by the Nature Conservancy, was named for the poet William Christman. Covering 98 acres, the Preserve also includes old orchards, stone walls and old fields (seen on the Plantation Trail).

CLUES:
From the parking lot, follow trail to the sign-in box. This easy trail will be about a 1 mile round trip loop (2 if you add the Plantation Trail). Caution – rocks are shale and very slippery when wet! Take the blue trail to the left going downhill until you reach the creek. Around 1/3 mile you’ll see a sign on the left for the Plantation Trail. (You’ll have to cross over the creek for the Plantation Trail, if the water flow is low enough. Worth adding on or coming back for if you want a longer hike – best followed in a clockwise direction). Continue on the blue trail alongside the creek. When you come to a split in the trail, go left and go between some rocks and down some steep steps. Follow this trail to the lean-to and waterfall. To return to the main trail, go back up the steps to where the trail split. Now continue on the blue trail until you come to where the trail makes a sharp right. Here you will see a tree with two trail markers on it (with the arrows pointing to each other). Look south toward the creek about 210 degrees and locate a large tree with four trunks. Look inside under some bark & rocks. Please be discrete as this is a popular trail. Please replace, well hidden from view (I’d hate to loose another Froggy). Return to the blue trail and continue on. Go over a bridge and then left back out to the parking lot.

Directions:
From Schenectady - Take route 7 West, pass through Duanesburg, and turn left onto Weaver Road. Then turn left onto Schoharie Turnpike, going about ¾ mile to parking lot on right. If you reach the railroad tracks, you went too far.
From Albany – Take US 20 (Western Ave.) West toward Duanesburg. Turn left onto Schoharie Turnpike. Go about 1.6 miles (just after railroad tracks) and turn left into parking lot.
