Clue Difficulty: Easy

Terrain: Moderate

Placed by Wes & Roxi on the 9th Annual Current River Float Trip.

Update: This box was reported missing on July 15, 2007.

In 1996 a small group of friends at the University of Missouri decided to take a trip to Big Springs Park in Van Buren, Missouri for camping and tubing on the Current River. A year later, they did it again and continued the trip each August throughout their undergraduate careers. After graduation, they dispersed throughout the country for work and professional schools but continued the traditional late summer Float Trip. The new friends they made in their respective cities were invited on the trip and so it grew and grew. Thirty-six people from six states attended the 2005 Float Trip.

The Float Trip box will give you the opportunity to marvel at the beauty of the Big Spring in Van Buren, MO.

Clues:

From the city of Van Buren, MO travel west on Hwy 60.

Turn south at Hwy 103 and follow the road as it winds slowly uphill for approximately 4 miles.

Enter Big Springs Park and follow the road signs to the Big Spring.

Park and follow the path to the Big Spring.

Continue on the path past the spring up the stone steps.

At the top of the steps, follow the stone trail left along the rock shelf that the borders the river.

As you follow the trail, you will pass two dirt trails on the right that climb further up the hill. Continue on the stone path for about fifty paces after passing the second dirt trail.

On the left of the stone path, you will see a tree stump. The Float Trip Letterbox is under the stone path by the tree stump. There are three large stones covering the letterbox so make sure to return them to hide the letterbox after finishing.

Enjoy the beautiful blue water of the Big Spring and take a float trip of your own at the Landing.

We only visit this area once a year so send us a note if you find it or have any trouble.
