From within the town of Chama, drive north on State Highway 17. This is the main road that goes by the historic train station. Turn left on 1st St. Turn right on Pine Ave. (this is also named St. Rd. 129). Drive into the Sargent Wildlife Viewing Area. A short distance after the road turns to dirt turn right into the campground and park there. NOTE: this area may be closed from May 15 to June 30 during Elk calving.
From the eastern brown restroom, walk at about 128 degrees (from mag. north) for about 80 steps to a point on the flat dirt road just before it starts to go up on the curved dirt berm. From that point, go at about 108 degrees for about 44 steps to a slightly moderate size Oak Tree cluster with a single taller Oak Tree sticking up out of the middle of the cluster. There is a moderate size Pine Tree just behind the cluster. This Pine Tree is only slightly taller than the single Oak Tree sticking up out of the cluster. The box is under the back side of the Oak Tree cluster covered with some plant debris and twigs. Be alert for snakes.
Please please be sure the contents of the box are double bagged when you rehide it. Please rehide the box well under plant debris and twigs so that it can not be seen from any direction.
I will not be able to check on this box very often; so, please let me know if you find it, or if it needs attention or is missing:
