Exit I-80 in West Wendover, Nevada and find “Wendover Will” standing in the middle of Wendover Blvd.
For 50 years, Will stood along the road at the crest of the hill to the east, waving weary travelers in to the State Line Casino. In 2002, the State Line was sold and became the Nugget. The city offered to take custody of Will and reportedly spent $200,000 to restore him and move him to the other end of the strip. To save on maintenance, he doesn’t move anymore, but at six stories tall he’s still listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the Tallest Mechanical Cowboy – edging out his cousin “Vegas Vic” on Fremont Street in Las Vegas.
Continue east on Wendover Blvd. past the Rainbow Casino. We stayed there for two relaxing and fun-filled nights. If you’re passing through around dinner time, we highly recommend the Steak House. It’s absolutely outstanding!
Continue to the 4-way stop at the bottom of the hill. Turn right and go a short distance to the first entrance for the Lacombe Field parking lot. The box is tucked underneath the back side of the 5th rock from the street on your right.
**** PLEASE NOTE: This stamp was created with colored pens in mind. If you don’t have a set, and intend to use an ink pad, please bring some stamp cleaner or soap and water so your color won’t muddy the stamp for the next person. Thanks so much!! ****
