Battle Mountain is known as “The Gateway to Nevada’s Outback.” There are lots of places to go 4-wheeling and biking. This spot gives you a bit of a view of Nevada’s outback. It's especially nice at sunrise/sunset. The Chukar are in abundance in this area.
DIRECTIONS:
I-80 Central Battle Mountain exit #231. Go south on Broad St., which turns into Hwy. 103 that goes to Austin. Go approximately 3.8 miles and watch for a sign for “Dump Site.” Turn left on this paved road that goes to the landfill, and go approximately 1.2 mi. The Lander Gun Club will be on the left, then around the corner will be the gate for the landfill. Don’t go through this gate. Turn left off the main road and park.
CLUES:
Look northeast to four large rocks lined up. Go to them, and when you get close, you’ll see that the third large rock has 2 smaller, flatter rocks next to it. A broken down fence separates the 3rd large rock from the 4th large rock. From the first wood fence post, the box is directly across, under the 3rd large boulder, behind rocks. This can be a busy road. Please be discreet and rehide snuggly with rocks.
