Stamp: Hand carved
Difficulty: Easy
Terrain: Easy
Time: 15 minutes or less
Kid friendly, dog friendly, easy parking
Location: Located in Chandler Hovey Park at the northern end of Marblehead Neck.
Clues:
At the end of the parking lot there is a group of covered benches. While sitting at the benches, look slightly to the right and across the bay you will see Children’s Island. During the summer there is an excellent camp there for children. Our son spent a couple of weeks there and loved it.
Also in front of you there is a set of pay binoculars. Go to them and set them to number 32 on the dial (there is no need to put money in…unless of course you would like a closer look at the island). Following the line of sight of the binoculars, walk until you come to another set of covered benches.
While sitting at these benches you can see Fort Seawall directly across the harbor, and slightly to the left upon the hill you can see a clock tower. This is Abbott Hall where the famous “Spirit of ‘76” painting is hanging.
Directly to the right there is a second set of binoculars. These binoculars have a sign with lots of points of interest, so it may not be a bad investment to pop a quarter in to take a look. But look quickly, it only lasts about a minute. Set the dial to 40 and head towards the bench the binoculars are pointing to.
Sit on the bench facing the rocky beach and look down and to the right. There you will see two boulders. Behind and under the furthest one you will find the box. Please re-hide it well since it will be in the direct line of vision of people climbing the rocks.
