Trail difficulty: moderately easy; a dirt and sand trail with a small slope.
Walk distance: very short.
Stamp hand-carved.
Version 3.0: this is the third carving, log book, and location for this box!
Status: alive and well on February 2, 2017
This letterbox is in a natural area on the east slope of the Tucson Mountains on the west side of Tucson with a nice variety of Sonoran Desert trees, cactus and other plants. From I-10, take exit 257 and drive west on Speedway Blvd. (The name of the road will eventually change to Gates Pass Rd.). After passing the last houses and entering the canyon you will pass a small brown park boundary sign. Continue up the road to parking area G1 on the right and park there. There is a large tan stucco & wood welcome to the park sign here.
From the big sign, walk west on the dirt trail which will soon drop down to the bottom of the wash. At the wash, turn left and walk up the wash for about 22 steps to an angular boulder on the left edge of the wash. From the boulder continue up the wash for about 9 more steps. Turn left and walk about 6 steps to a Mesquite Tree. The box is behind the tree trunk under a flat rock covered with some twigs. Be alert for snakes.
Please please be sure the contents are double ziplocked when you put them back in the box (i.e. the stamp is in a ziploc, the book is in a ziploc, and the two are in the larger ziploc bag) and put all of it INSIDE the box. Please rehide the box well under the one rock and covered with some twigs and plant debris so that it can not be seen from any direction.
Please let me know if the box needs attention or is missing:
