This letterbox is placed in the Mule Pass in the Mule Mountains on the west side of Bisbee. From Bisbee, drive northwest on State Highway 80. After passing through the Mule Pass tunnel, turn right (east) on the next road which is N. Old Divide Road (also this is old U. S. Highway 80). Drive southeast uphill to a pass (Mule Pass). At the pass there is a white monument for road construction in 1913-14 and (erroneously) for the “Continental Divide” at an elevation of 6030 ft. Park near this monument.
Facing the front of the monument, look to your right and you will see a yellow sign that says “No County Maintenance”. From behind this sign, walk down hill on an old dirt road to two vertical rusty pipe posts, one on each side of the road. From the left (shorter) post, go at about 248 degrees for about 12 steps to a moderate size tree. You will pass a Manzanita bush and a large Oak Tree to arrive at the tree. The box is hidden on the south side of the tree trunk under a large rock and some twigs and plant debris. Be alert for snakes.
Please be sure the contents are double ziplocked when you put them back in the box (i.e. the stamp is in a ziploc, the book is in a ziploc, and the two are in the larger ziploc bag). Please rehide the box well under the rock, twigs and plant debris so that it can not be seen from any direction.
Please contact me if the box needs attention:
