Custer’s Balloon
Before Custer made his famous last stand, he soared in Virginia. During the Peninsula Campaign of 1862, Lieutenant Custer served as a staff officer and scout. Part of his duty included an “uneasy observation flight” in a hot air balloon at the nearby Warwick Courthouse.
Your challenge: Find the sign in Newport News Park that tells the above story along with other interesting facts about Custer. There’s even a picture of First Lieutenant Custer relaxing with Union Officers.
Once you have found the sign, 13 bunny hops away in a Northerly direction you will see a short stump containing Custer’s Balloon. Please rehide VERY WELL!
