Ogarita Elizabeth Booth was born on October 23, 1859 and died in Binghamton, NY on April 12, 1892. Her mother was Izola Martha Mills, and her father was the infamous John Wilkes Booth. Many historians do not believe that Ogarita was the daughter of John Wilkes Booth, and say that there was no proof he was married and had children. Whatever the truth actually is, Ogarita believed that John Wilkes Booth was her father. When she was six years old, the man she believed was her father pulled the trigger of a gun in Ford's Theater and shot President Abraham Lincoln. Perhaps following in her father's professional footsteps, Ogarita was an actress, traveling off-Broadway under the names Ogarita Mills and Ogarita D'Arcy. Despite the negative opinions of John Wilkes Booth, Ogarita openly wore a brooch containing her father's picture until she died of pneumonia at the age of 32.

Ogarita's daughter, Izola Forrester wrote a book entitled "This One Mad Act" (Boston: Hale, Cushman & Flint, 1937) which is about growing up with a mother and grandmother who believed they were the family of Lincoln's assassin.

Ogarita is buried at Glenwood cemetery in Binghamton. To find her, locate the cemetery and park outside the gates. Don't enter throught the gates; instead, walk up the paved road to your right, towards a maintenance shed and several yards up you will spot Ogarita's grave on the left. After paying your condolences, please return to where you parked.

You can either drive through the cemetery or take a quick walk up the road to find Ogarita's box. After passing through the gates, stay on a straight course along the paved road. Just after it curves right, keep watch for the Aswads of Syria on the right. Park your car here if you have driven. Look for a low rock wall that marks the perimeter of the cemetery - you will find Ogarita near some heavy foliage and under some rocks.
