This letterbox is in the Madera Canyon Recreation Area (USFS). There is a fee to park in this national recreation area (if you do not have a forest or national pass). From I-19 in Green Valley, take exit 65 and go east on Continental Road. Turn right on White House Canyon Road and follow brown signs to Madera Canyon. After passing the large brown odd angular entrance sign for Coronado National Forest, continue up the road for about 2.1 miles. Turn left into the Madera Trailhead and park there.

Walk up the Bog Spring Trail. The trail will curve gently to the left and head directly towards a stream bed in a gully. Just before the gully, the trail will make a right turn and go along the steep hill slope just above the gully. The trail will soon cross the stream bed. A steel pipe also crosses the stream bed at the same place. From the point where the trail crosses the stream bed, continue up the trail for about 46 steps to a very large dark boulder on the left covered with some lichen. From the south end of the boulder right where it touches the trail, go at exactly south (mag.) for about 15 steps to a large dark boulder with moss on it. The box is under the east side of this boulder in a “hidey hole”. The box is covered with a flat rock and the flat rock is covered with some plant debris. Be alert for snakes.

Please be sure the contents are double ziplocked when you put them back in the box (i.e. the stamp is in a ziploc, the book is in a ziploc, and the two are in the larger ziploc bag), and put all of it INSIDE the box. Please rehide the box well under the rock and covered with some plant debris so that it can not be seen from any direction.

Please let me know if the box needs attention:

Madera Canyon is a great birding area and a nice scenic area for a stroll along a stream.
