A campfire is more of an event than a thing. Enjoy friendship and fellowship around a campfire…. Share a meal with friends or meet someone new passing by your campsite. Each fire is as unique as its builder!
Following your next campfire, take some of the ashes the next morning and save them. Add them to your next campfire and share the story of you last campfire with your friends. Carry on this tradition of "friendship ashes" with each consecutive fire. You can divide up these ashes among your friends and then each of them can relive the last fire at their next.
Start your journey for the friendship shared through this letterbox from me to you at Sweeney Park in Shrewsbury, PA. Sweeney Park is located off of the Susquehanna Trail on Playground Ave. After the stop sign, you pull into Sweeney Park (on Playground Ave) you will pass the Scout House on the right. This is where we have our campfire’s… there is an “open fireplace” on the front side of the building that is perfect for a campfire.
Follow the street to the back of the park where there will be a chain draped across the road…. You will pull up to the right of the rock sign that says “Sweeney Park” As you exit your car, you will notice all the picnic pavilions and grills.
Follow the paved path towards the back of the park (to the right of the base ball field) passed all the playground equipment. As you near the bottom of the hill, you will see a path (lower) that follows around behind the baseball field. Take this trail in a short section of woods. After the third tree on the left, you will see a stand of three and one half trees. This will be just behind the foul pole on the third base line.
At the base of the ½ tree, you will see a pile of rocks… here is the treasure you seek. You can either follow the trail around to the other side and sit in the stands to complete the log book or use one of the picnic pavilions.
Please make sure that you re-hide this box well when you are done.
