Little Dove Arch with an awesome view of Millcreek Canyon.

From Moab, take the highway south to 400 East and turn onto Millcreek Drive at the corner where Dave's Corner Market is located. Go to the intersection of Millcreek Drive and Sandflats Road and take Sandflats road up the hill and past the fee booth. (You can take a passenger car all the way to the starting point.) Go past the famous Slickrock Biking Trail and find Campsite Cluster E. Park near Campsite E-7.

Face the campsite and take a bearing of 110 degrees. You will see imprints of dinosaurs on the sandstone. That is the trail you want to take. You need to ascend the rocks until you reach the dirt road, ascend that and follow it until it turns towards the mountains. Walk 50 feet from where the road turns and continue on the road until you reach some sandstone that intersects the road. The distance from the start to this point is .4 miles. Now walk off the road, making your own trail. Turn towards the rim of the canyon and take a bearing of 130 degrees. Walk around the cryptobiotic soil and on rocks and sand as much as possible. Look for a pinnacle of rock in the shape of a dove. There is no mistaking this rock. Some people think it looks like an eagle, but I have called it a dove. The views of the LaSal Mountains and into Millcreek Canyon are worth the walk. See if you can see another arch down in the canyon; it is a cliffwall arch, which means there is rock behind it instead of sky, but I have been down under it and can testify there is a light opening.
Go around the dove to the east and find an old dead bush. Look up under the dove for your prize. This is my first stamp and box.
Total distance of this hike is .75 miles. Time for hike is 30 minutes.

New stamp placed in February 2009.
Mini-box, homemade stamp and small homemade journal.
