Status of Letterbox: Alive and Well on 5/27/2009
The "Hidden Turkey" letterbox is located in Lake Somerville SP - Birch Creek Unit. Many other boxes are in this park, and you can find information from those clues.
Directions:
From Hwy 36 from Brenham, pass through Somerville and on to Lyons. Turn left in Lyons on Hwy 60, and go to Park Road 57. Turn left and go to park entry at end. Go in and pay fee, then as exiting Visitor Center parking, go right. When road curves right you will take the 2nd left into the Yupon camping area. Look for parking area on the left with sign for the Birch Creek Trail. Park.
To the Letterbox:
Take trail on sidewalk, then path, to trail junction. Go left. When you reach a large tree on the left side of the trail with a smaller tree wrapped aroung back side (you should be nearing the lake), look straight ahead down the path. Locate the large tree that the path lines up with (before the path curves to the right). Now walk down the path, then off trail, for 62 steps to the base of that tree. The box is next to roots, with large rock laying over it. Please cover with leaves, then rock, when done.
