We found this park looking for another box but was missing so we decided to make a box of our own. We called it the IMA FLYIN HOGG since Ima Hogg owned the land. It is listed as a state park but that is no longer the case. Admission is $1 per person.
Directions to the park: West Columbia is located on Hwy 35 between Bay City and Angleton. Once you get into the city you can take 17th street which is by the HEB or 13th street to get to the park. the park is only open from Tue to Sun from 8am to 5pm.
To the box: After you pay you can walk or drive into the park it is up to you. You will cross a bridge and enter the park. As you drive around the circle you will notice large bowls used for sugar making and a pump jack named IMA #4 on the right hand side. You will travel around the circle and come upon an information sign to your right. It tells about working on the Patton Place. Standing in front of the sign turn to your right. You will see a barbed wire fence with a sign saying state park property. Walk to the sign. There should be a large post to your right just to make sure you are in the right place. Not turn to your right and walk 11 paces. You will notice a small trail in the grass. It leads back to the fence at an angle. Follow the trail to the fence and look under the tree and tall grass. You should find the box under some leaves. Please email us the status of our box if you look for it.
