Alive and well as of 2/20/23
Be sure to find the new box two lampposts to the left….
Long Beach has a lot of cool local mainstays, but one of the best is a world famous bar established in 1924, one of the oldest continually operating taverns west of the Mississippi. It also holds the distinction of being the location of the first ever letterboxer gathering in California, according to this interview, between Don & Gwen, Amanda From Seattle, and Wendy Gault.
(NOTE: By May, 2010 we had a reunion of sorts. All four of them have now visited the box.)
Once you've found the location, go to the rear of the parking lot across the alley. Find the rightmost light pole and look under the metal case on the cement base.
When you're finished, make sure the logbook and stamp are both sealed in a bag, and that bag is sealed in the second bag. Now head inside and order a schooner, a Special and an egg.
