* * * NOTE: I received an email 28 May 07 that this box may be missing. An empty box and baggie were found, so it sounds like it may have been vandalized. If anyone would like to confirm, I'd appreciate it since I no longer live in NY. This is still a nice area in which to take a walk and spend some time. * * *
Terrain: Easy & short
Clues: Easy
Directions: The Sullivanville Watershed is on Rt 13 just north of the intersection of 223. Park in the turn-off on the east side of Rt 13 and head toward the dam.
Clues:
Artio is the bear-goddess of the Celts, recognized from the British Isles to Greece, with a major following in Gaul in the area that is around Bern in present-day Switzerland. She is said to be the mother of King Arthur. Artio is a woodland goddess, and often appeared in the company of bears or even in the shape of one. She would probably find the Sullivanville area a peaceful spot to take a stroll, happy to see an area that man is giving back to nature. To follow in her footsteps, take the trail named for a mighty tree. Follow it to the old road, but take it away from the water, not into it. Follow it until the end. Notice the old guard rail, and backtrack to the spot where it runs to earth. Do you feel the presence of the goddess?
Notes:
- Journal has been replaced Dec 05.
- No ink pad in the box, make sure you bring your own.
- Please do not ask me for additional hints without offering a bribe of unpublished clues, hitchhikers, etc.
- Please email me with notes about the box: jelybean.books@comcast.net.
