Walk difficulty: fairly easy, a dirt trail with a few ups and downs
Walking distance: about 1/4 mile one way
Stamp hand-carved
Status: alive and well on April 7, 2015
Drive about 4 or so miles east of Valentine on State Highway 12. Turn south on the entrance road to Ft. Niobrara NWR. Just after crossing over the river bridge, turn left on the road to the Burr Oak Area. Drive to the end of the road and park.
Walk east (right) on the Fort Falls Trail. Go to the first bench along the trail. Turn around and walk back on the trail for about 16 steps. Then go at about 100 degrees (from mag. north) up slope for about 26 steps to a tall Pine Tree (the one on the right in the cluster). From that Pine, go at about 74 degrees for about 8 steps to another tall Pine Tree. The box is under the northeast side of the tree under a rock covered with chunks of wood and plant debris. Be alert for snakes.
Please please be sure the contents are double ziplocked when you put them back in the box (i.e. the stamp is in a ziploc, the book is in a ziploc, and the two are in the larger ziploc bag), and put all of it INSIDE the box. Please rehide the box well under the rock and chunks of wood and plant debris so that it can not be seen from any direction.
I will not be able to check on this box; so, please let me know if you find it, or if it needs attention or is missing:
