12/21/10 - the full logbook has been replaced. Since this logbook is so small, please try to fill all of the space on the pages. I can't perform maintenance on this box as often as I would like to. Thanks for your help.
5/13/11 - I have been told there is a lot of construction in this area, and the box might not be accessible.
In Pittsfield, head towards the Berkshire Mall. Turn into the mall entrance off of Route 8, Connector Rd.
On both sides of the road will be parking for the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail. Turn left into the parking lot. Proceed towards the end of the lot.
Looking towards the mall, with Rt. 8 in back of you, look towards the left end of the parking lot (towards the fence). Look just at the tree line, just above the slight rise. You will see a large birch tree on the left, and then a smaller birch tree approximately 10 feet to the right of the large birch tree. Between these birch trees is a multi-trunked conifer.
Your prize lies in the crook of this conifer, hidden under bark and behind small birch logs (if the LB is not in the crook of the two conifers, look in the space between the 3 confirs - all part of the same group of trees. The LB has been replaced here several times). It would probably be best to take and return the letterbox from behind the tree, somewhat hidden from view. This can be a very busy spot during nice weather – please be careful, and rehide well.
The letterbox is a small, round, white container, about twice the size of a film canister. There is no ink pad or pen.
