The Atoka Letterbox was planted while I was spending two days at Camp Atoka doing training for my work. It was such a nice drive, I thought it was worthy of a letterbox. The letterbox spot has a nice view and is a good picnic or fishing spot. For an interesting stop, follow signs to the monastery after finding the box. They sell a nice collection of fruit-flavored, creamed honey that they make themselves (well, with the help of the bees, that is). It is a surprising respite spot in a unique location.
Difficulty: drive-by easy
Clue: Go up the Ogden Canyon towards Huntsville, passing the Pineview Reservoir. When you get to the turnoff for Huntsville (100 South), turn right (away from Huntsville). Go 4.3 miles up the road, passing Camp Atoka and Eagles Family Meadows. Park at the pullout on the right side of the road with a forest service sign at the end.
There are a couple of small trails going to the river from the parking pullout. Take the trail that is by where the parking area begins. Just before entering the small clearing, you will see two large rocks on either side of the path. Go around the large, flat rock on the left. There is a tree behind it that branches over smaller rocks behind the large rocks. The letterbox is hidden in a hole in the center of those rocks. It is covered by loose rocks. Please rehide well.
