This letterbox commemorates the 100th anniversary of Arizona statehood. Arizona became a state on February 14, 1912.
The letterbox is hidden in Lincoln Park in central Tucson. From I-10 take exit 275 and drive north on Houghton Road. Turn left (west) on Irvington Road. Turn right (north) on Pantano Road. Turn right (east) into Lincoln Park and proceed to the eastern end of the parking area. From downtown Tucson, drive east on Golf Links Road. Turn right (south) on Pantano Road. Turn left (east) into Lincoln Park.
At the east end of the parking lot is restroom #1. Behind the north side of the building is a paved trail. Walk straight east on this trail. When you arrive at a fork in the trail, take the right paved trail walking straight east. When the trail starts to curve to the right, stay straight on a very short section of dirt trail. Continue straight east on the paved trail and go to the next green utility box on the right side of the road (it has number 9 on it). From this box, go at about 6 degrees (from mag. north) for about 60 steps to a moderate size Palo Verde Tree (you may have to walk around some bushes to get to it). From the north side of this tree, go at about 342 degrees for about 19 steps to a fairly large Creosote Bush with a Barrel Cactus and an Ephedra (Mormon Tea) Bush under its left side. The box is under the backside of the Creosote under a flat rock covered with some twigs and plant debris.
Please be sure the contents are double ziplocked when you put them back in the box (i.e. the stamp is in a ziploc, the book is in a ziploc, and the two are in the larger ziploc bag) and put all of it inside the box. Please put the lid on tight. Please rehide the box well under the rock and covered with twigs and other plant debris so that it can not be seen from any direction.
