FROM ROANOKE(220 N): Take US 220 south park is directly after the Blackwater Bridge at the wayside, you will also see a brown sign that says historical marker 500 ft . FROM MARTINSVILLE/ROCKY MOUNT (220S): Come up 220N. After crossing Blackwater River bridge (two miles north of Rocky Mount), take first cut through and retrack to wayside on US 220 south.
This is a nice little stop between Roanoke, VA and Smith Mountain Lake. Park by the three historical markers, cross the small cement bridge and proceed down the hill following the stone path. Pay your respects to Chris and Nichole, who lost their lives in the same summer in the Blackwater. Look straight ahead, just beyond the memorial. There are two trees looking over Chris and Nichole. Walk towards this large double tree. At the base you will find the treasure you seek. I recommend using a stick and possibly a flashlight.
