This is one of two boxes that make up my very first plant. I figured it was time. Having recently broken 100 finds since taking up letterboxing, I have to say that some of my favorite boxes have been in the old cemeteries that are all over the place here in New England. I am a firm believer that they should all receive frequent visitors, and to facilitate that I think every one of them should contain at least one letterbox. This tiny cemetery is one of two in the rural neighborhood of Chestnut Hill that straddles the border of Montague and Leverett, MA. If you are from the area, hopefully you know how awesome it is to live "on a hill."

Directions: Find MA Rt-63. If you are coming from the Amherst-Northampton area, take 63 North. If coming from the north, take 63 South (you can also take Rt. 47 if coming from the south. This intersection is where 47 and 63 meet). Find a sign directing you to the Lake Wyola recreational area (a right from the southbound lane, left from the north) and take that road. This is North Leverett Rd. Follow North Leverett Rd. and take your second left (it will be a while. At least a half mile). This is West Chestnut Hill Rd. Follow this Road up the hill, into the woods. Eventually, the Chestnut Hill cemetery will be on your left. Its tiny, so don't blink or you'll miss it!

CLUE: Enter the cemetery via central stairs. Not stairs really: more of a path with a rock in the middle. In the center, find one slate headstone that is taller than the rest. This is one of the hill's resident Revolutionary War veterans, Ebenezer Whitney. Face his headstone, look straight towards the stone wall. Head that direction and stop at the wall. If you're in the right spot you should see a white birch in the woods in front of you. Turn right and follow the wall to the end. At the end of the wall is a downed tree. It's hollow. The box is inside behind a large rock. Stamp in and rehide well. No ink so bring your own pen and ink.
