Drive west from Boulder on Hwy 119 for about 16 miles. Find the Welcome Sign at the top of Boulder Canyon and park in the area by the sign. This funky town developed around mining, is the gateway to the beautiful Indian Peaks Wilderness, home of The Carousel of Happiness, famous for the 1970/80s recordings at Caribou Ranch, and infamous for the Frozen Dead Guy Days. Welcome to life at 8236 feet!
Face the Welcome sign and the ore bucket of old. Follow the wire cable to its spool. You’ll find your quest, held magnetically, by reaching under the most south western “hole” in the iron platform. Please replace this find carefully. Be sure to check out the shops and restaurants in the area, too.
