This letterbox was created and planted in honor of my son's proud send of the classic 'Roses and Blue Jays' boulder problem (V13). Translation for non-climbers: There is an established sequence of moves (the 'problem') which rock climbers must make in order to climb, without any assistance, from the bottom to the top of a boulder.
For those not inspired by gravity-defying feats of strength, simply enjoy an off-the-beaten-path mini-adventure to find the boulder, and letterbox.
CLUES:
Find yourself where Pine and Quarry Street meet. You can park on the right side of Pine. Step over the 'Keep Out' chain fence, and proceed down the dirt road. There are telephone poles on your left; look for pole #48, it is only a few minutes of walking. At this pole, turn left. There are cleared trees and piles of wood. You'll see a large orange rock on the right, then a sharp, trapezoidal rock on the left side of a not-too-obvious path leading towards the hillside. Follow this path about 5-10 minutes. The path will turn left and go up hill, winding its way until the boulder is in plain sight. When you see the boulder, look for a tree on the left edge of the path. This tree has a large hollow at its roots, the perfect hiding spot. Please re-hide the box as you found it or better. Happy trails, trees, and rocks...
