Parking and trailhead are off of Randolph Rd, west of Rte 17. The walk to the letterbox is 5-10 minutes, depending how much you stop to pick berries, watch butterflies, or admire the landscaping of the Nature Gardens. There's no difficult terrain, though you should always look out for poison ivy and ticks in the woods.

Enjoy the wide trails, keeping generally to your left until you see a stone wall and wooden fence with an opening leading out of the garden area into a field. Approach the opening, but don't exit! Instead follow the wood chip trail just to your right, along the back edge of the park.

You're in the right area when you see a grove of musclewood trees (Carpinus caroliniana). Their bark is distinctive for the sinewy ripples of the wood visible beneath the bark. The leaves are fairly small and tightly serrated. (If you visit in the winter, you may find some leaves still clinging to the tree, as they do with beech trees. Some people call this tree "blue beech" for the resemblance.)

Musclewood trees don't tend to grow very tall or wide, but if you find the largest tree around (about a foot in diameter), then you're very close to the letterbox. Need a hint? The box is not on the ground, and you shouldn't need to step into any swampy area... (You may also see the debris of an abandoned campsite. The letterbox is not mixed up with that stuff at all.)

This letterbox / geocache hybrid is especially designed for the exchange of Artist Trading Cards, or other trading cards (MTG, sports, whatever you would like to share). It contains a 100% kid-made lizard stamp, and I have stocked it with some original stamp-based cards, including some cards that profile leaves that are local to the area. Feel free to take a leaf card, see if you can find the associated tree, then come back and exchange it for another!

It also has some (cheap!) foreign coins available for exchange or trade. The box is big enough for compact collectibles of other kinds as well. Please make sure to close the box carefully to maintain the waterproof seal, and re-hide it at least as well as you found it.

Thanks, and enjoy!
