Clues and walk are moderate. In the winter make sure to wear snowpants and boots as you will be off of the main trail.
Enter the park and obtain a trail map. You need to pick up the River Ridge Trail in back of the Hurwich Shelter. Follow the trail to your left along the river's edge. You'll know you are headed in the correct direction when you spot the "Rainbow Arch Tree" on your right hand side. (There's plenty of room for kids and adults to go under the arch - try it!)
When the trail forks, follow it to the starboard side. Cross over the bridge and follow the Horsetail Trace trail to the right, following the river up stream. You will come to an open meadow.
In front of the largest evergreen tree(to your left)locate the wooden birdhouse (#12). Starting with your back to the birdhouse, take 120 paces South to the windblown woodpecker holed tree. It is to the right of the "twin towers."
Search the trunk of the tree for the "belly button" to find the prize you seek!
This is a wonderful place to go bird watching so bring your binoculars!
This park offers may hiking trails and picnic areas. Enjoy!
