Walking distance: about 0.1 mile one way
Trail difficulty: fairly easy, flat and paved.
The answers to the questions in the clues for this webbox are located in Saint Croix Island International Historic Site in northeast Maine. Letterboxes are not allowed to be physically placed in national parks and other sites administered by the U. S. National Park Service. So, I have created this webbox. You must actually visit the area of the clues; however, you need to go to the Web to obtain your finders stamp.
Go to Saint Croix Island International Historic Site. Park in the lot by the visitor center.
Walk east to the start of the Interpretive Trail. At the start of the trail is a colorful interpretive sign titled “An Induring Legacy”. In the 1st paragraph on the left below the title (starts with the words “The 1604-05 colony …”), in the 3rd line, what is the 7th word _____?
Now, walk east on the Interpretive Trail to the end where there is a metal model of the Saint Croix Island colony under a covered shelter. On the side of the model is an information sign titled “Imagining the Settlement”. In the 1st paragraph on the left under the title (starts with the words “This model shows …”), in the 2nd line, what is the last word _____?
To create the mystery word, put the word from the second question on the end of the word from the first question (without spaces). Paste the mystery word (all letters lower case) into this URL (replacing the question marks “???” with the mystery word):
http://nostalgia.esmartkid.com/???.html
Now, plug/paste/type the new URL into your web browser and you will have completed your search for the Saint Croix Island Historic Site Webbox.
Please record your find at www.letterboxing.org/ .
