“Cookie Lady” honors our Granny. Many thanks to her niece, Gem Mom, for carving this beautiful stamp. Cookie Lady was a warm, funny, loving Granny who adored her kids and grandkids, and we all adore her! Everyone was welcome in her home, and you never left hungry. She was a wonderful cook and we miss her hot rolls and cookies. If you stopped there you were fed, and you always left with a cookie. So when you find the letterbox, there might be a cookie for you, too!
Clue: Find the Garland Cemetery by heading north on Main Street in Garland. A few miles out of town, at the corner of 6000 West and 13600 North, you will see a sign for the cemetery, pointing you to the west. Follow the road west for ½ mile and you are there.
When you enter the cemetery, You will see trees stretching their leafy green fingers to the sky. Find the tree that reaches alone. When you stand at that tree, you will see you have made a Wise decision. Say hello to Cookie Lady’s parents, Della and Wallace. Now your journey can begin.
Face the setting sun and continue that direction until you cross the road. Go slightly to the left and meet Cookie Lady’s brother, Wallace Keith. Look around once more until a semi truck comes into view. The fence behind it will “link” you with what you seek. Follow your metal guide toward the towers in the distance. Twice you will come to a corner, but don’t be fooled, you must proceed. Continue following until you can go no further north. You will pass groups of more green “hands”, none as big as the first.
When you reach the end, gaze out to the west where Cookie Lady now rests in the Bothwell Cemetery and know that she would want you to have a cookie. The prize lays beneath the rocks at your feet.
