Driving west on rt. 301 from the Taconic State Parkway, you need to park mid-shoreline on Canopus Lake on the north(right) side of rt. 301. Walk across rt. 301 under the guard rail to get on the blue 3 Lakes Trail. This is about a 1 hour loop hike. Walk about 50 yards and cross a muddy patch before starting to walk down a long slowly descending straightaway. As the descent steepens the trail bends to the right. Inside this first turn if you look to the right you will see 2 kingsize rocks with a tree growing up between them. Between these 2 rocks you will find the first box called...Kingsize Rox Box. Return to the 3 Lakes Trail walking in the same direction and you will cross a stream while walking along a marsh created by some beavers on your right side. 40 kid paces past the stream on your left side you will see a long dead tree propped up on 2 rocks. In between these two rocks you will find your second letter box called the Knick Knack Box. Return to the 3 Lakes Trail hiking in the same direction. You found the first 2 boxes within the first 10 minutes. You won’t find the next box for another 25 minutes. At the junction with the green trail, stay to the right on the 3 Lakes Trail. Descend and cross the stream on a stone bridge and follow the trail to the right. Continue up and over a knoll and begin a long climb up to the junction with the Appalachian Trail. About 50 yards before this junction look up on the hillside to your right and you will see a massive “x marks the spot” made of 2-50 foot long dead trees lying down. At the center of this x you will find the Korona Box. Return to the 3 Lakes Trail hiking in the same direction and take a right on the Appalachian Trail heading north. After 10 minutes it looks like you come to a trail junction, but the trail to the left is no longer in use. Continue on the Appalachian Trail to the right and you will see the Stone Wall Bridge. At the far side of this bridge appears to be a canon sticking out of the hillside on the left. Near the base of this tree pretending to be a cannon is the 4th letterbox titled the Kanon Box. The box is actually under a flat rock at the base of an adjacent dead tree. Return to the Appalachian Trail hiking in the same direction. When you get to 301 take the connector trail, an old road, to your right back to your car.
