Look at a map and select your best route to reach Atoka. It is on US Highway 69, which is an excellent highway from McAlexter to the north or from Durant to the south.
The letterbox is placed in Boggy Depot State Park, approximately 10 miles west and 3 miles south of Atoka off state highway 7.
Watch for the sign showing where to turn south on the county road. Be sure to go to the park office and get a brochure about Boggy Depot (it was Chief Allen Wright, resident of Boggy Depot, who suggested the name "Oklahoma" meaning "Red People" as a name for the indian territory that later became the state.) Follow the map to Furr Campground #1, where you will see the parking lot for the Little Cedar Nature Trail. This is a beautiful trail that is alternately covered in gravel and moss. Bikes are not allowed. You will go over a wooden bridge and come to a sign identifying the "main trail", stay on the main trail at that point. When you come in sight of Little Cedar lake, follow the sign to the right and take the path not travelled by vehicles. Watch for a HUGE cedar tree on the right side of the path with a big "smile" about 8 feet high where the path takes a sharp bend to the left. Leave the trail and go approximately 30 paces at a 90 degree angle to your right to a large Oak tree that starts as one and becomes two at about 3 feet. The left part of the tree is VERY lazy. The box is in the V of the tree trunk. Follow the trail around the lake to have a chance to stretch out on the hill by the lake and enjoy the silence. The trail is approximately 1.4 miles in length. Take time to look through the confederate cemetary that is still in use for locals today and has many prominant indian graves. This is definitely a park that is off the beaten path, but has its own unique beauty.
