Begin by traveling to the Woodward Park Nature Preserve.
*Note* Be careful because to get to the preserve you do not want to go to the middle school or recreation center with the same name. The Preserve is on the property behind the school and center. Also, it is best to only visit this site during the day.
To get to the preserve:
From Morse Rd, turn North on Karl Road. Go two stoplights and turn West onto Norma Rd. Stay on Norma, as it rounds a bend to the right it will turn into Ilo Dr. Ilo will dead end into the parking lot of the Woodward Park Nature Preserve. Park in the parking lot.
To locate the Into the Woods Fox Adventure Letterbox:
1. Take the trail that meanders between the tennis courts and the playground (passing the picnic shelter).
2. At the T, turn left (towards the sign with the owl).
3. Stay on the paved path and cross over the bridge.
4. Once across, go left at the Y (You should see the Natureworks sign with a cardinal on it).
*Note* This is a gravel/dirt path which is sometimes extremely muddy with poison ivy on both sides of the path. Remember to: LEAVE NO TRACE and stay on the trail.
5. Keep walking on the trail, when you get to the T, you will see a small walking bridge (go left).
6. On the left side of the bridge, count 7 supports. Now go over to the right side of the bride (next to the 7th support), there you will find what you seek. (A giant tree marks the spot).
Please remember to close the box tight, and return it to the same spot you found it. Also, we’ve left stamped postcards, we would love for you to write us a message and drop it in any mailbox to be mailed! Don’t forget to stamp or sign our logbook.
You will need to bring ink and a pen.
If you find our box in disrepair or if it is missing, please send us a message!
We hope you enjoy our little park. If you are lucky, you may see some of our deer friends on the path. Also enjoy the beautiful sounds of nature that can be heard all around you! Watch out for the squirrels, they like to drop nuts on your head from the trees.
Hike length: 0.5 miles
