Mrs RFD grew up on this property and her mom still owns it. When Mrs RFD's mom wanted a Little Free Library, Mrs RFD started planning! Mrs RFD's mom had this beautiful library custom made and had a special hidden compartment added to it. Mrs RFD's mom also had a bench installed, with a custom paint job, for people to use while reading ... or stamping in. ;-)
There are separate, marked, rectangular plastic containers in the compartment - one for letterboxing, one for geocaching. Mrs RFD carved the themed stamp, one of our favorite animals doing one of our favorite things. The box is very small, so bring your own ink.
Do not visit after dark, as this is a residential neighborhood. The box is cleverly hidden as part of the library but is not inside with the books. Don't be confused by the guestbook inside the library - that is not the logbook. But feel free to write a note ... Mrs RFD's mom will love to read about your visit.
To find the letterbox, first peruse the books inside the library and perhaps sign the guestbook. Then walk around to the back side of the library and look underneath, on the right side. See the extra bit of wood? Open the latch and flip the cover "outward" towards the left side of the library to open the secret compartment. The letterbox and geocache are stacked one on top of the other, in no particular order. Replace the box as your found it once you're finished, swing the door closed and close the latch.
It's very snow friendly ... no need to search around the area, landscaping, woods, etc. The library is your spot! Bring your leashed pet - there's a hook to hold the leash while you browse!
Parking is on the side of the road very close to the library - just watch pets and children as people use the street for a cut-through and can crest the hill quickly. There is plenty of space off-road where the library is - park on that side (East side of road). You might see Mrs RFD's mom and some of her pets! She is very proud of her library! If you're shy, don't despair: the driveway is long enough that you won't be seen from the house.
Swap, donate, borrow, or browse the books. You do not need to bring back what you borrowed.
Enjoy Little Free Library Charter #109502, our second Little Free Library (letterbox)!
Hike length: 0.1 miles
