Tommy Koulax opened his first burger shack in 1946. Now with over 30 locations in California and Nevada, it is still owned by his family.
At the end of a day boxing with Lee, we were deciding where to get some food. We were in the neighborhood of the ORIGINAL Original Tommy's, and Lee confessed he had never been. How have you lived in SoCal so long and NOT had the absolute BEST chili cheeseburger on the planet?!
While we munched away, I mentioned that I once thought of planting a box here. Sure enough, the next time I saw Lee he had carved a stamp and put together a box for me to plant. So of course I did.
Across Rampart Blvd they have a parking lot and I'll be the first to tell you how much I hate finding boxes in a lamppost skirt next to a dumpster... So it's one lamppost over, to the left of the ramp down to the lower level.
Now head over to the famous tiny shack and get yourself a double-cheeseburger with everything, chili cheese fries with onions and extra chili, and a large soda to gulp it all down. Diets be damned, this is living!
