Troop 327 A. Lums Pond State Park,
¾ mile to box; 1.5 mi. round trip.
***You Will Need To Bring Your Own Stamp Pad****
From Rt. 896, take Howell school Road Eastbound.
Turn right into park at Lum’s Pond State Park sign.
Proceed through entrance booth and pay fee if in season (unless you have a state park pass).
Follow main road.
Turn into Area 2 and park near the boat rental end of the parking lot.
Take path to boat rental.
When you can go no further, and the lake is right in front of you, turn right, and follow the path.
At the end of the concrete proceed on the gravel path.
You’ll pass a large, overturned tree on the right - keep going.
Go over the little wooden bridge that crosses a small stream.
Look to your left to see the Blue Heron nestled next to the tree that fell over the edge of the pond (well, he was there when I wrote this. He maybe off finding breakfast or lunch!).
Right before the marker at the left of the path, you may still see a tree gnawed down by beavers! (At least it was here in the spring of 2023).
Stop and read the marker: Where is the Poison Ivy? Very good information to know when you’re off in the woods. Continue along the path.
Scouts have been here before! Take a look at the Eagle Scout service project done by Colby Dolbow of Troop 204. It is on the left of the path.
About 35 steps after Colby‘s bench you’ll come to a fork in the path. Be sure to make the right choice!
Hint: if you go over the long wooden bridge, you have made the wrong choice.
Pass another part of Colby’s Eagle Scout project and continue making sure you again make the right choice at this fork in the path.
Make a big right curve following the path.
Continue on the twisty-turny path. You’ll pass a wooden fence box on the right covering a dangerous hole. Stay out of the hole!
Go over small Bridge 29.
Time to get off the beaten path! About 10 steps after Bridge 29, take a left off the path. Walk about ten steps from the path and you should be between two tall trees.
Continue in the same direction about 15 more feet. You’ll see an old tree on the ground with roots sticking up. Look inside the root end of the tree to find me!
Please seal me up after stamping my book and stamping yours. You may take one of the unicorn charms (if any are left). Please seal me to keep the water out and place me back where you found me!
Hope you had fun! The girls of Troop 327 – The Mighty Unicorns.
