Terrain Difficulty: Easy (slight slope, 3 km RT)
East Sooke Regional Park provides over 50 kilometres of trails through forest, marsh and field, with pocket beaches, rocky bays and tide pools for exploring. The Coast Trail takes hikers through lush rain forest, along windswept bluffs and down to the ocean’s edge. It also takes you to petroglyphs at Alldridge Point, where this box is located.
Directions:
From Sooke Rd (Hwy 14) go south on Gillespie Rd for 5.9 km to East Sooke Rd. Turn left for 2km then right on Becher Bay Rd for 1.7 km to Aylard Farm parking for East Sooke Regional Park at end.
Clues:
Walk down main gravel trail at left end of lot, past picnic pavilion on right, to jct with sign pointing left for Creyke Point and right for Coast Trail. Go right along the coast, crossing a bridge, to jct with larger trail. Go left to stay on Coast Trail, following yellow markers through the boulders, to another jct with a sign. Go straight, staying on Coast Trail, a short way to large sign about the petroglyphs on right. To see the petroglyph, continue a short way slightly left among the boulders. For the box, go right off trail behind the petroglyph sign for 20 steps to a large fir tree, then go right 5 steps to the red Arbutus tree. LB is 3' high in a crevice behind sticks & cones.
