Kale is the superstar veggie of the month for November’s Massachusetts Farm to School Harvest! This leafy green is packed with vitamins and nutrients that help keep you strong, healthy, and energized. Kale has lots of vitamin C to protect you from colds, vitamin K to make your bones strong, and even fiber to help your tummy. It’s also super versatile—you can enjoy it in smoothies, crispy kale chips, or don't forget your Avo's famous Portuguese soup! By choosing kale this month, you’re not only doing something great for your body, but you’re also helping support local farms. Give kale a try and see how awesome it tastes!

To find the letterbox head over to Brookside Conservation Area at 1013 American Legion Highway, Westport MA. Brookside Conservation Area is a beautiful spot for walking and fishing along Bread and Cheese Brook. There’s a granite bridge downstream from the parking lot that farmers and mill workers used long ago. Visitors can enjoy the peaceful sounds and sights of the brook as it flows toward the Westport River. The area was created thanks to a donation from the Ferry Family and support from local organizations and private donors.

When arriving to the site and parking by the trailhead make your way down the path. When you encounter the brook make your way right down the path towards the granite bridge. During the Fall the leaves can cover some roots and stones so be careful as you hike.

Continue to walk past the old fisherman crossing and through the tree archway that Mother Nature has gifted us. The path gets narrow but keep going! You will cross a little rock bridge that connects you to the path. Along this pathway you will see a tree on your right with a large hole in the middle of the tree, you are close!

Peek around the back of that tree and look down at the base...tucked away is your letterbox. You may have to gently move a decaying tree stump that hides the box so make sure you put back to cover up it! Happy Hiking!
