Troop 327 Lums Pond State Park Box - Where the Apes Play

1. From the bottom of the eastern pair of parking lots in AREA 2, take the path that goes downhill.

2. Come to a fork in the path. Take the one you think continues going downhill.

3. Still another fork a short while later. I don’t think you’d want to take the sharp turn because that would go almost in the reverse direction. You better take the one that heads in the direction of a big body of water.

4. After you’ve been warned about not venturing out onto thin ice, proceed about 40 steps and take a left

5. Feel like a monkey? You’re entering the ape-zone. Make sure to stay off everything except the trail, including the GoApe features that say keep out! Do you remember at your next scout meeting to tell your leader that GoApe would be a great scout trip in the future! Continue on the trail.

6. You’ll come to a fork in the path. Follow the one that’ll take you over the water. Look at the beautiful blue heron flying out over the lake to your right – oh wait a minute. He may not be here now, but he was when I wrote this.

7. Who knows what a blaze is? It’s a stripe of paint. Used to signify paths in a trail system. When you come to the purple stripe across the tree, which is a blaze, follow it to the right.

8. At the next fork, keep left to continue on the main trail

9. Watch out for flying squirrels! Particularly if this is a night hike for as you read, that’s when they’re most active. Continue along the trail.

10. Do you know what a water-closet is? If we were in England, a building with water-closets in it would be on your right. Go past it.

11. Continue past the park map and until you find out all about Canada geese.

12. Move off the path toward the two large coniferous trees that are close to the woods about a hundred yards to the right of the path in the same direction you were going.

13. Find the manhole cover on the ground before you get to the coniferous trees right. It is a couple of steps from the edge of the woods.

14. As you peer in, you’ll see a white sign on a tree. Go towards it.

15. Mando apparently would go left. This is the way!

16. At the fifth frisbee golf tee, look to your right and you’ll see a frisbee golf cage. Walk towards it.

17. At the frisbee golf cage, you’ll see a large dead tree (still standing) catty-corner to your left. This still standing dead tree has provided a lot of homes and foods for various animals. Find that tree.

18. I’m hiding in the right most trunk that’s pointing up! Make sure to stamp your card or book with the stamp in the letterbox. And, use your stamp to leave your mark in the box contained in the box. You may take one of the little trinkets inside if any are left. Please make sure to put the letterbox back exactly where you found it!

Hope you had fun! The girls of Troop 327 – The Mighty Unicorns.
