Palm Springs Art Museum
101 N Museum Drive - Free four hour parking
Good hiking shoes and water recommended.
There are signs stating the trail is closed but it's not. Only the extension to the whole 8 to 9 hour trek is closed but to the top where the picnic tables are located it's open. I had to trek up the mile hike with this very heavy letter box so your trek won't be as bad.
Cactus to Clouds trail
Very popular trail - I was surprised how many hikers go up.
One mile up and it’s a bit steep
Follow the white painted dots
Reach the multiple picnic tables at the top
You've reached the picnic table - take in the view
North facing trail - The cable fence leads the way
80 paces on unmarked North trail facing windmills
Start walk from picnic table nearest North trail
Look down to two foot tall triangle rock
Triangle rock is 12 paces down off trail
Don’t pass the Tom Cavanaugh plaque
From Tom’s plaque 35 paces back on trail
There's a cairn at the spot to walk down off trail
Maybe I’m a rock maybe I’m not
Note: Remove contents, do not drop this box. Do not over tighten the jar.
Option for getting back down the mountain. Take the Lykken trail down near the picnic benches, there's a sign showing the start of the Lykken trail. This trail is much easier going back down and you get to Ramona Street and can walk around back to the Museum parking lot.
