(This box replaces the missing Tree Finder. Hopefully it's hidden a little better!)
Start at the confluence of the Little Sabattus and Androscoggin rivers. Follow the paved bike path upstream along the Little Sabattus. You will find carpets of ferns and water insects (summer), birds and trees (all year). But what you are mostly looking for is the skinny trail that leads to the left toward the riverbank. It's just a couple of hundred feet from the parking lot. Take that trail through more exuberant ferns and woods, and turn right with the trail as you approach the river bank. You will see beaver-chewed stumps on your left, and soon you will come to the One that Got Away on your right. Take sixteen paces beyond it (still on the trail), and look to your right. The letterbox is behind the fallen log you see, tucked inside a rotten spot and covered with leaves.
Please rehide carefully; this is a popular spot for fishermen, local teens, and others.
To return, continue along the access trail back to the bike path. Turn right to return to the start, or turn left and follow the river a little further. This pathway has access to the river rocks, which make a nice place for a picnic, and eventually ends at the new elementary school in Lisbon.
All standard disclaimers apply. You may want some insect repellant too.
